The “Patterns” window is found here.

In Photoshop:

  1. Open the Edit menu and choose Keyboard Shortcuts
    MAC (⌥ ⬆︎⌘K)
    PC (Ctrl Alt Shift K)
  2. Click on the icon to create a new Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus Set. Call it “MyShortcuts” (or anything you’d prefer) and save it.
  3. Open the Edit section (from Application Menu Command) and scroll down to Define Pattern…
  4. Add a shortcut by pressing: MAC ⌘⌥⬆︎^P -or- PC  Ctrl Alt Shift P (you can choose another available key combination if you prefer)
  5. Save your new shortcuts set and close the Keyboard Shortcuts dialogue box.
  6. Open one of your new PHOTOSHOP Patterns & Background files and simply press ⌘⌥⬆︎^P -or for PC  Ctrl Alt Shift P
  7. Give your new pattern a name.

Congratulations! You now have the first custom pattern added to your Patterns window.

If you don’t see the Patterns window, open it from the Window menu at the top of your Photoshop application.
